October 1, 1999
Dear Friends,
It is a beautiful day. As I write to update you on the 1999 activities of MinneapolisNEXT, seven young men and women are attending private middle and high schools in the Twin Cities thanks to our collaborative efforts. They are outstanding students who, along with their parents, have made these school choices with guidance from NEXT And financial support from NEXT scholarships. Additionally, NEXT provided funding in 1999 for numerous summers camps, bicycles, computers, musical instruments, and other things kids need to help them be successful.
MinneapolisNEXT is a great example of a simple idea carried out in a quiet, efficient manner. NEXT has created informal partnerships with local schools and youth athletic organizations. These partnerships have enabled the schools and organizations to channel funding requests and applications to us and, working together, we have been able to provide financial aid to deserving youth. MinneapolisNEXT has made a real difference and there is heartfelt appreciation from these children and their families.
Mentoring and opening doors for young people is the most cost-effective and productive investment we can make in urban America. NEXT will be writing you in the near future to solicit a 1999 contribution. Please feel free to call my office to discuss the MinneapolisNEXTstory. Let’s work together and have more days like this.
Warmest regards,
Rex
