Letter from Rex Holland 1998

June 1, 1998

Dear Friends,

Summer ’98 is approaching and I am again seeking your support in sending deserving Minneapolis boys and girls to summer basketball camps.  I am involved in a cash-strapped, all-volunteer youth basketball program – Southwest Boys Traveling Basketball in Minneapolis.  In our ’97-’98 season, we had 60 boys involved from 6th through 8th grades.  Our uniforms are not fancy and our shoes don’t match, but more importantly, we are frequently complimented on our fine sportsmanship and unselfish style of play.  A highlight of the past season was a state championship won by one of our 8th grade teams.  GO LAKERS!  The goal for the ’98-’99 season is to start a complementary girls’ program.

In 1997, I hastily raised $1,000 from 50 generous contributors and sent three boys to the B.J. Armstrong Basketball Camp at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.  Additionally, Coach Jeff Olinger of Luther College and B.J. Armstrong made sizable contributions. It was a great experience for the kids!

I am asking for a contribution of $10 or more, if you desire, to reach the goal of sending five to ten boys and girls to summer camps in 1998. Luther College will again be a key partner.

Thanks again for your support and have a great summer!

Sincerely,

Rex
